Beer: Black Jack Pirate Ale

We tried a new beer from another local brewery tonight. Black Jack Pirate Ale is brewed by Point Remove Brewing Co. in Morrilton, Arkansas. I was in our local Walmart Neighborhood Market this afternoon while our running errands. I saw this one in the craft beer section and decided to give it a try.

On first taste, this really reminded me of a porter. It was smokey and nutty with a hint of yeast. The hops were a nice finishing touch on the end. The color was very dark, too. My first thought was about how yummy this beer was. I’m definitely going to try it again sometime.

At 5.5% ABV, this is on the lighter side of beers. I’m not sure of the IBU, but it tasted like it might be in the low 20’s range. It definitely wasn’t all that bitter to me.

From the brewery:

Black Jack Pirate Ale is an all season, light tasting, cream ale base that is brewed black. It’s a light beer with a black heart for light beer fans looking for a darker experience.
