Beer: Weihenstephan Festbier

Weihenstephan is the world’s oldest brewer. They were established in the year 1040 in Bavaria, which is now Germany.

Festbier is served at Volksfest, which is a large festival combining beer, wine, and carnival rides. I’m sure they also serve this at Oktoberfest as well.

I really enjoyed this brew. It was light and refreshing with a hint of hops on the tail. I picked up on the maltiness right up front. The hops were definitely noticeable, but they balanced out the flavor just right. At 26 IBUs, this beer is low on the bitterness scale.

At 5.8% ABV, this beer is stronger than most American brews, but it’s not over the top.

From the brewery:

Festbier is delicious with simple dishes, roasted chicken and flavorful Alpine cheese.

Deep gold in color, this beer is luminous in the glass. From the very first sip, the full-bodied flavor is immediately perceptible – a balanced harmony of hop and malt aromas.

The dense foam and the rich maltiness of this beer are especially impressive in a Maßkrug (liter mug).
